Malacca Historical Tour – Tracing the Roots of Malaysia’s Heritage

You will experience an important place which is supposed to be the historical capital of Malaysia. The city and the state of Malacca is considered the opposite of Kuala Lumpur. Though not the capital of Malaysia, it is touted as the “Historical State” of Malaysia. Malacca is the site of the earliest Malaysian sultanates and is also one of the oldest trading cities in the world, strategically located at the Straits of Malacca, which attracted the attention of major colonial powers such as the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the British.

The presence of these colonisers left a huge impact on the infrastructure, culture, and lifestyle of this marvellous city. It was listed by UNESCO as a “World Heritage Site” in 2008, which has greatly contributed to its growing popularity.

You’ll head to Dutch Square where the majestic salmon-pink town hall is located. This historic building once served as the Dutch governor’s residence and now houses the Stadthuys Museum, which showcases a wide variety of Malaccan artifacts.

At the end of the tour, you’ll get a chance to admire the surviving gate of the Portuguese fortress, A Famosa – one of the oldest European structures built in Southeast Asia, dating back to 1511.

Our guided walk through the historic center of Malacca allows visitors to learn first-hand about the Portuguese and Dutch influences on the city’s architectural gems, like Porta de Santiago and the Stadthuys. After exploring, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch made from fresh ingredients, cooked in true Malaccan style.

The tour also includes visits to must-see tourist attractions such as the Cheng Hoon Teng Taoist Temple – the oldest functioning temple in Malaysia – and the quirky Jonker Street, famed for antiques, local souvenirs, and delicacies. This affordable and highly popular tour also serves as a fantastic educational experience, with our expert local guides providing rich insight into each destination.
